On to another one of Brooklyn’s serious businesses: art. It’s not too late to catch DAVID VIGON’s solo exhibit at Fillmore Atlantic Gallery, on Atlantic between Smith and Hoyt Streets. Curated by Brooklynite Leon Nicholas Kalas, the exhibit features representational oils, which the artist creates in his East Williamsburg studio.
This weekend marks the 10th annual GOWANUS ARTISTS STUDIO TOUR, sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council. It began in 1997 when 15 artists wanted to draw people from surrounding neighborhoods to their work. This year the two-day features over 120 artists and has over 30 sponsors. On Saturday and Sunday, the studios will be open from 1-6 p.m. The diversity of the work is evident: watercolors by Jo Bidner, oil paintings by Tamar Cohn, chalk drawings by Karen Gibbons, stoneware by Shizue Imai, pottery by Amanda Moffat, pencil drawings by Hiroshi Tachibana, sculpture by Bedel Tiscareno and collage by Cynthia Winingsjust to name a few.
