It is most famous for its basketball phenoms Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair, but Abraham Lincoln High School has a new reason to cheer. Social studies teacher ROBIN WEST applied for and was awarded a one-week seminar titled “The Cold War” at Cambridge University this past summer. It was led by Odd Arne Westad, Chair of the History Department at the London School of Economics and co-director of the London School of Economics Cold War Studies Centre.
The seminar, sponsored by Manhattan’s Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, was attended by 30 teachers from the United States, England, Russia, and Serbia. Each educator received reading materials, room and board, transportation for tours and a stipend.
