Congratulations to RISA YOUNG, who this week was named the new executive director of Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS). Young has more than 23 years of experience in education and community services. Most recently she was director of Early Childhood Services for Lutheran Medical Center’s division of community-based services in Brooklyn.

BKS’s Board President MAUD ANDREW expressed excitement at the prospect of working with Young and commented that her “experience, energy and talent” would propel the organization forward. Always on the cutting edge, BKS was founded in 1891 (!) to provide early childhood education for immigrant children. Today it operates five licensed centers for nearly 400 at-risk children in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and Brownsville. One of their biggest fundraisers is the annual Yuletide Ball, to be held this year on Dec. 9 at the Heights Casino.
